Gliderising and Moosic

So I just went out on a sales call and got talking to the guy once we'd finished the business part - and I'm now trying to wheedle my way into the passenger seat of his glider for a fly around Benalla.

That would be awesome. Gliding sounds like a pretty quirky and random sort of a sport. Powered aircraft tend to give gliding neighbourhoods a wide berth, because they don't fly in a straight line and it's bloody difficult to predict where they're going.

The bloke was telling me that with all the altimeters, GPS and instrumentation in the cockpit of a glider, the most important readout he takes is from a piece of string that's stuck to the window with a bit of sticky tape. If that bit of string is lined up right, everything's ok. If it goes off to the side, corrections need to be made. Wacky.

He gets towed by a plane up to around 5-10,000 feet and dropped off for a cruise that could last anywhere from 45 minutes to 7 hours, depending on the weather and heat. It must be quiet and peaceful up there.

Anyway, here's hoping my wheedle works and I get to see for myself.

In other news, progress has been fast and furious with the new band. We're trying to think of a name, which is always a crap part of the proceedings, but we've got about 7 songs ready to go.

We've had 5 rehearsals over 2 weeks, and next week we're planning to record our first EP. The goal is to be able to sell CDs from our very first gig, which hopefully won't be too far off.

It's good stuff, pretty high energy rock. And my drumkit sounds absolutely *incredible* on Zac's Protools setup. Can't wait to get a disc done.

I'm getting all excited again - I did the band thing a few years back, got signed, launched discs, got airplay... In fact, I'm very proud to say that I snogged both members of S2S in the same night at their first single launch when we were on the same label... heh heh heh. Here's a blurry pic, they've just come in at #56 in FHM's sexiest women thingumy.

But I digress. It'll be great if I get to go down the music path again and have a better crack at it this time. It's a tough road.

Anyway, back to my day job...
